How to Update Your GST Mobile Number & Email ID

Changed your phone number or business email since GST registration? Your mobile number and email ID on the GST portal are what receive every OTP, notice, and filing acknowledgment — if they’re outdated, you can lose access to your own GSTIN at the worst possible moment. Call or WhatsApp us on 70 9232 9232 and we’ll get it updated correctly the first time.

This is a non-core field — it’s meant to be fast

Mobile number and email ID are classified as non-core fields under GST registration, unlike your legal name or business address. That means there’s no officer review, no 15-working-day wait — the change is auto-approved the moment it’s verified. The catch is the verification step itself, which is where most people get stuck.

Where the process actually trips people up

Under Services → Registration → Amendment of Registration (Non-Core Fields), the promoter/partner or authorised signatory’s mobile and email are updated together, verified by a single common OTP sent to both the new mobile number and the new email at once — valid for only 10 minutes. If you don’t have access to both inboxes at the same moment, the OTP expires and you start over.

If the person whose mobile/email is being changed is your primary authorised signatory, there’s an extra step: after the change goes through, you have to wait roughly 15 minutes, log back in, and manually reselect that person as the primary authorised signatory again under the Authorised Signatory tab — it doesn’t carry over automatically. Miss this and your primary contact silently reverts, which is exactly the kind of thing that surfaces three months later when a notice goes to an inbox nobody’s checking.

Why this matters more than it looks like

Every GST notice, e-way bill alert, and return-filing confirmation goes to whatever mobile number and email are on file right now — not the ones you meant to update. Businesses that change their SIM card or switch to a new company email address and forget to update the GST portal often find out about a compliance issue only after the deadline has already passed, because the alert went to a number that was disconnected months ago.

What we actually do

  • Filing the non-core amendment correctly the first time, no failed OTP cycles
  • Handling the primary-authorised-signatory reselection step so it doesn’t silently revert
  • Confirming the change reflects correctly across both the portal and any linked e-way bill login
  • Direct access to your consultant — no call centre
